You are watching The X Factor right? I know, I should be glued to Masterpiece Theatre and The National but I am just totally hooked on the Fox music-contest show for reasons only my psychiatrist fully understands.

Which is why I am so pumped about the fact that a former Montrealer is in the Top 32. Aimee Santos, 25, is a member of the girl group 2squar’d which is one of the groups still in the hunt for the big prize on The X Factor. If you’re watching, you saw 2squar’d on the show Sunday doing their rendition of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, a curveball thrown at this Destiny Child-like outfit by the show organizers. They performed it for judge Paula Abdul and guest judge Pharrell.

Santos was born in Greenfield Park, grew up in St. Hubert and later nearby Sainte Julie, before moving at the age of 14 to Miami with her family. Her dad is Haitian, her mom Dominican and the whole multicultural message is a  big part of the 2squar’d thing. Shine, the song they performed as their The X Factor audition, is all about that multicultural thing, with lyrics in French, English, Spanish, and Creole.

My column on Aimee Santos is online now and will be in The Gaz Tuesday.

Check out their take on that old Queen chestnut.
